Conversion Frustrations

Last night I stitched a bit on "A Time to Sing" -- I just wasn't motivated enough to get out the big frame after guarding for 4 hours. I'm still not sure how much I like my color changes...I stitched the wings of 2 of the birds and the body of the third using some Ozark Sampler thread (Wildflowers) that I got as a freebie from SB&B. I ended up outlining the wings, because the contrast wasn't strong enough to give the design any definition. Eh. Yeah, this one will probably go on eBay - maybe in the spring when it will seem more "seasonal". Don't worry, I'll post a pic when it is finished!

Then I went through my little chair-side stash bin and found the Popcorn teddy bear kit that came with one of the British magazines. Very cute...and a great teeny project for working on when the birds are done. The only reason it has been waiting so long is that the chart didn't have DMC numbers for the floss, and I wanted to match it to the best of my ability before I started stitching (in case I ever wanted to use the pattern again). Well, I got out my DMC floss color card, and was having no problems.....until I got to the color listed on the chart as "Mink Brown." Too red for the 838-842 range, not red enough for the other column. Ack. It must be an Anchor color? I used a blend that I *think* will be close, but I'm still not happy. Oh well, I'll probably never get around to stitching it twice anyway.....

Almost forgot, this week's SBQ:
Have you ever stitched something as a gift and later realized that receiver doesn't respect your stitched gift a bit (for example it's never on show, or you have other reason to suspect that it may even be nonexistent or at least placed in some dark storage room corner)? If so, what have you done? If you've been lucky enough to avoid such people what would you do if it'd happen to you?

The only people I've stitched for are family, and they love to receive the things I stitch. I did clothespin angel ornaments for my coworkers one year...they all SAID they liked them, but who knows. I didn't really worry about it. Same for the wedding ornament I made for a friend - although her new husband is a stitcher, so I'm guessing it was appreciated. Oh, and I did a birth announcement for a dear friend which I know she loved.
If people discard little ornaments, cards or the like, I don't get too upset. Now if I'd put a lot of time, effort, and materials into a big project - pretty much anything worthy of framing, IMO - I'd get peeved. They definitely would not be receiving another gift! If it wasn't personalized, I might see if I could get it back - because really, why would I want someone else's wedding sampler or birth announcement back? I guess I've just been very lucky....or at least been fairly certain of how a gift would be received before I ever even started stitching it.

Hi Erin,
Please tell your DH that I am proud of him for pursuing his PhD :-) I could never find the time, energy or funds to do that myself and have settled for master's level psychotherapy, but with private practice it works out to be rewarding. He will be attending tons of those seminars like the one I did yesterday - they are required as part of our licensure :-) He can come sit with me on 11/14 if he wants - it is about psychopharmacology and is The Yard Restaurant in Manchester, NH - I will save him a seat :-)

Craft Sale!

So my mother and I set up our little table at the craft fair this past weekend.  And we didn't do terribly!  I sold $125 worth of needle...
