SBQ, 1/10/2007 - But Would I Turn a Profit...

Do you dream of running your own LNS/ONS? If so, tell us about your dream. If not, tell us about your cross stitch dream... maybe you dream of designing, dyeing your own floss or fabric, etc.

Yep, everytime I visit my LNS I think of how I'D do things differently if it were MY store. *grin* First and foremost, I'd definitely be friendlier that my current LNS owner! She has her days, but I think she has more bad days than good ones. I'd move the shop to a location where I could have a workroom or stitching space for customers, and then try to arrange a weekly or monthly Stitching Night. Maybe set up teaching demonstrations, and extend the invitation to more than just people who already stitch.....have "Bring a Friend/Spouse/Child" classes or something like that. I'd set up an email newsletter to let people know what is new in the shop. I'd reach out to other specialty crafting stores - the local scrapbook stores, the knitting shop down the street - and see if we couldn't work together somehow to spread interest in ALL of our passions.
I've bounced some of this stuff off my DH in the past, and he actually thinks it could work. The problem? Well, the current LNS owner is an insanely prolific stitcher - I'm not. Also, she does framing - and GORGEOUS framing, at that! - and I'm not confident enough to take on that kind of responsibility for other people's work. But who knows, maybe someday......

I've been diligently stitching along on the second wedding piece all week, so I'm going to spend the weekend with "me stitching" -- probably finishing up the Black Swan freebie and possibly starting Just Nan's "Wintry Mix."
I'm STILL waiting on my order from SB&B. I placed it on 12/23, and had no information on it until yesterday (probably due to them doing inventory, but still....). And now I'm waiting on an out-of-stock chart. *sigh* I think I need to give some other ONS a try the next time I need something...Bobbie's sale prices are tough to resist, but I hate waiting so long. I wish her website would at least have some "in stock" info. I get that not every chart/floss/etc. on the site is physically IN her store, but it would be nice to know before placing an order just what I might have to wait for.
At least I got my pretty "Julia" Ginghers from Mike & Carol -- yay!! They are so pretty. The blue is much more my style than the Lanells (brown) that I got at Jo-Ann's going out of business sale.....of course, DH has a point when he says that they are all scissors and they cut equally well. LOL

I had to laugh at your hubby's comment about the scissors! Spoken like a true non-stitcher! I wonder if my hubby truly understands my obsession either!

I agree it would be great if Bobbie could track what's in stock in her store on her website.

Craft Sale!

So my mother and I set up our little table at the craft fair this past weekend.  And we didn't do terribly!  I sold $125 worth of needle...
