Do you have an organizational system for your patterns? If so, how do you organize them? If not, have you considered organizing them?
You realize you are asking a LIBRARIAN this, right?!?!?!? LOL So yes, I do have an organizational system, composed primarily of a drawerful of hanging file folders. First come the patterns, alphabetical by designer, then the magazines grouped by title first then date. But I didn't stop there.....there is, of course, an index! I created a database, and devised appropriate subject categories. You can sort it by subject - say you want a dragon pattern, by pattern title - you know you're looking for "Spring Peepers", by designer - just how many Dragon Dreams' patterns DO I have, anyway?", or even by finished size. Oh, and I added a column to note whether or not I've stitched the pattern, too. And any combination of categories will work as well. What can I say, I'm thorough!
I've actually started going through my magazines and listing a majority of the patterns in each issue individually - assigning subjects and everything. It is taking FOREVER, but it is much easier to find a specific design now, especially if I know I need a baby pattern, or a veggie design for my sister's kitchen, or something like that.
Finally there are my downloaded freebie designs...right now they are in a folder on my hard drive with the designer first followed by pattern name. So it looks like this: "Stitchy Kitty - Love One Another." Essentially they are sorted like my hanging files, but there is no index yet.

We can't help but be organzied can we? But I don't take it that far a creating an index! Very ambitious, what software do you use?
