Kringle

So, I don't know if I've mentioned it here before, but my little sister is pregnant! Yes, the one who "just" got married in January of 2010, forcing me to be a pregnant chocolate bon-bon maid (HATE the term "matron") of honor... hehehe She and her husband aren't finding out the baby's gender, and are referring to him/her as "Kringle." Since they live in a teeny-tiny apartment - seriously teeny-tiny, he is a PhD student and the canpus housing arrangement they have gives them about 500 square feet! - I'm not doing a full birth sampler. I was planning to, but then I looked at the gorgeous sampler I did for my own daughter, and pondered its future...once she is old enough to not want it on her wall....and beyond that... And if you think I'M being overly practical, my sister is even more so! So I'm making Kringle a Christmas ornament instead. This is Heart in Hand's Wee Santa 2010, and he is exactly what I think of when someone says "Kris Kringle." So cute!
I'm using most of the flosses called for, with a few substitutions (like I wasn't buying an entire skein of hand-dyed for the 4 stitches making up Kringle's cheeks!). I also substituted beads for the gold buttons on his hat, and am pondering what to do about the buttons on his coat. I have some small black buttons, but I don't think they are quite small enough. And I'm debating whether or not to stitch the border...any thoughts? It doesn't really make the design any bigger, but it doesn't feel "ornament-y" to me. Hmmm. (The child's name and birthdate will go on the back, since I have enough extra fabric. The figure is almost 4" tall by itself, and I think that is a decent ornament size!)
