True-color photo FAIL

Several months ago I picked up La-D-Da's "Merry Christmas" pattern from the bargain bin at my LNS. According to the front of the pattern, this is what it looks like: So I decided to start this as my Christmas project -- small, cute, appropriately seasonal. And I did a floss toss. NONE of the colors looked anything like the picture!(My toss is missing the white for Santa's beard and coat trim, and also the "green" (DMC 3021, which is way more gray than green) for the little tree and the border, but you get the idea.) The pamphlet picture is so washed out. Blech! And in real life, many of the browns are so similar that there is, IMO, no definition. I know it is supposed to look antique and all, but I was not happy. So after some fiddling with my DMC chart and my drawers of hand-dyeds....Much better.

And from our house to yours, Happy Holidays!!!

Lovely, lovely family portait.
What a beautiful little girl she is growing to be.
I agree - I find a lot of photos don't really represent the true colors.

Merry merry Christmas!!

I HATE when the colors in the model picture don't come close to the written directions. I buy a chart based on that model pic and I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that my version should come out fairly close if I follow those directions.

Your baby is so, so darling Erin! She's just the cutest thing with her twinkling eyes! And I love your Santa too :)

I'm with you, Erin, it's a right royal pain when the chart doesn't come close to the finished version (I still have nightmares of a certain Just Nan chart!) - your choices look lovely though :)

Just want to say that I've enjoyed reading your blog again this year, and look forward to doing so in 2011 (even if I don't comment often these days) - all the best for the upcoming year to you and your family :) Love the portrait by the way :D

Craft Sale!

So my mother and I set up our little table at the craft fair this past weekend.  And we didn't do terribly!  I sold $125 worth of needle...
