You see, last week I was playing around with my digital camera, and doing some self-portraits for the "365 Self-Portraits" project I've seen on several photography sites and bulletin boards. I decided to use some candles and my decorative oil lamp to try to get some neat lighting effects. All was going fine, until I finished.....when I extinguished the candles and the lamp and left them on top of a file cabinet. Somehow my stitching - "The Fairy and the Swan", to be specific - came in contact with the oil lamp's wick, and the oil traveled up the wick and into the fabric (and stitching). It looks bad and smells worse, and I hate to think what would happen if it were in a storage box or displayed with other pieces.....
Here is a pic of what it looks like now --

The oil stain is very evident, it almost completely covers the stitched area. So right now it is soaking a sink full of Dawn -- this was advice I got over at The Wagon. I figure it can't get anymore "ruined" than it is....

There's nothing to say except, "Awww...."
Oh no! Fingers crossed the stain comes out for you :)
That's heartbreaking! Hopefully the Dawn really will "take grease out of your way" like the ads say. I have everything crossed for you...including my stitches. Hope it works!
I am so sorry! I pray and hope all will be well with it!
Hugs! Fingers crossed that you'l get it out!
You took a real hit in the gut with this one Erin. I do hope you have great success with the Dawn detergent!! Hugs.
I have been toying around with the 365 project too. I look forward to seeing what you come up with, although it may be a while before my life is normal enough to post regularly.
