A question!
Related to my latest finish - it is stitched on 32-ct. linen. I started out stitching with 2 strands of floss, but quickly decided that I didn't like the bulky look that I was getting, and switched to one strand. Then last night I started another pattern on 32-ct. linen, and again found that 2 strands of floss just wasn't making me happy. Now, I know so much about stitching is a matter of personal preference - "thread goes through needle, needle goes through fabric" being the only real "rule"! - but I just wondered what my readers might think/prefer. I also wonder if it has something to do with the fabric - I've stitched over-2 with 2 strands of floss on 32-ct. evenweave without a problem, it seems to be just the linen that lends itself to the more delicate look of one strand.

I like stitching 2 over 2 on Belfast, but If you like 1 over 2, why not? There are no stitching police!
I stitch 2 over 1 on 16ct aida and love the coverage.
Also work 2 over 2 on 32ct evenweave & it looked great too.
Can't advise on linen though, as I don't use it.
Just do what you think is best for you ;)
I'm a 2 over 2 on 32, and I sometimes find that 2 over 2 on 28 is too sparse for me (I don't want to see any fabric!), so it would take something like a 40 count or stitching over one to get me down to one thread ;)
I stitch almost exclusively 2 over 2 on 32ct linen (often dyed, so it's more like 34ct with taking shrinkage into account) with no bulkiness, and like Suz, sometimes 2 over 2 on 28/14 fabric looks too sparse to me.
But it's just personal preference and you have to do what works for you! And as a bonus, you save a lot of thread by only using one strand! :D
I'm with Suz and Rahenna too! I like the fuller look of 2 over 2 on 32 count whether it's linen or evenweave. 32 is my preferred fabric too. I like 28 for over 1 stitching.
However, when I stitch speciality stitches I like to use one strand because the shape of the stitch shows up more. I like the stitch to be the feature rather than simply being a way of covering the fabric.
