November SBQ and babbling about magazines

I'm a bit late in answering this, but here goes -
What's your favorite color of thread? Pick just one. Why do you like it?
I've always loved shades of blue - one look in my closet proves that! And right now, I think my favorite floss is The Dye is Cast's "Bluebells." It reminds me of my daughter's eyes, especially in the early days when they were Newborn Blue. (Now her eyes go from a deep blue-green shade to a kind of hazel, especially in the center.) The dye company is no longer in business, so I can't show a picture of the floss itself, but here it is as the lettering in LHN's "Moon and Stars" and as the blue flowers in the border of "Moon Dance."

So, magazines. First of all, my mother brought me a pile of old magazines that she picked up for a song at a local craft store that was going out of business. Some of them are pretty bad, but there are a few treasures in there! I found the issue of Just Cross Stitch with TW's "Lily Maiden," an issue of Cross Stitch & Needlework with Patricia Andrle's multi-layer "Victorian House" pattern (I won't stitch it, but maybe someone would like it), and Volume 11 of Sampler & Antique Needlework Quarterly. Fun! I'm also amazed at how much more there was to actually read in some of these older publications. And I must say, while I like getting lots of patterns in a magazine, it is refreshing to find an article about the history or how-to of needlework.
Finally (and also related to magazines), I was notified about the changes in publication over at The Gift of Stitching. As you may have noticed, I took down my link to the publication. Suffice it to say I'm not happy with the change - from a monthly publication to a bimonthly one, with no change in the price, and in my opinion, no good way of handling existing subscriptions. I'm very glad I did not buy into the extended subscription packages that were offered in the past, because those with 5 year, 10 year, or longer subscriptions seem to be the ones with the most to lose. As it is, I paid for a one-year subscription/12 issues in March, and as a result of the changes will only be getting 9 issues. I don't want or need any back issues, and I'm not convinced I want to renew again (even at a reduced rate) - and those are the offers the publisher has made to existing subscribers. Ah well. I suppose I could make a giant confrontational stink about it, but more than likely I'll just vote quietly with my pocketbook and let my subscription expire. I'll miss TGOS, but at this rate I'm not sure it will last much longer anyway.

Yeah - I'm really displeased with the Gift of Stitching change. I get going bi-monthly. Fine. No worries. But she should honor her current subscribers' remaining issues on each subscription. The fact that she drops the news in mid-November with "decide between these two crappy options" for compensation by the end of the month is insane. I filed a ticket. Haven't heard a response (and honestly, I have a feeling I won't get one). As of right now, I am not planning to renew.

Craft Sale!

So my mother and I set up our little table at the craft fair this past weekend.  And we didn't do terribly!  I sold $125 worth of needle...
